There's a difference between coughing up a top 10 pick for a guy with another decade of play ahead of him rather than a guy with a couple years left in the tank. Let's be honest about this. A goaltender this old has never been moved for a top 10 pick.

Is Fitz the GM possibly a little desperate right now? Sure. Desperate enough to trade a top 10 pick for a couple years of a goaltender on the downward slope of his career and the end of his playing days nigh? If Markstrom was a longer-term solution and didn't have the Oiler debacle with that following season on his resume, then maybe Fitz pulls the trigger. Seems like way to big a risk, but sometimes guys under fire make stupid decisions. I don't see it. There has to be a lot more to the mix here if a deal is being discussed. Calgary is the team kicking in here and adding a lot IMO.
Three years of inconsistent play? Meaning one off year surrounded by a Vezina calibre year and a really good one. He’s far more proven than Schneider.

Schneider was a contract issue, much more so than Markstrom. The Devils were not guaranteed of a decade of play (and didn’t get one). They were guaranteed two years of play for their pick.

You wanted an exact match with age, salary, etc?
