If the Devils add a dman, that dman needs to play against 1st line players, excels on the PK not the PP. The Devils have the offence covered, they need a defender that pairs with the kids and helps cover up their warts in their own end. Not Rasmus Andersson who is no better in his own zone, needs PP time to excel and likely costs $7 mil or more to keep long term.
A guy like Tanev, who is better than Rasmus and because he does not score, he gets paid $4.5 mil despite being the better player.
I said this at the deadline, Oilers overpaid for Carrick and Henrique but they added their top 2 forwards on the PK. This could be good adds for them as it addresses a weakness. Most said these 2 were AHL players and the Oilers will never win until they get depth scoring to help McDavid and Draisaitl.
Stanley Cup finals are here, the Oilers still get no depth scoring, literally have the same old same old carrying the offense. But they difference other than some luck on the injury side is the other team is not scoring on them. Their PK is over 90%. Their PP is killing teams and they do not give up anything on the PK and teams are trying to our depth them and the difference isn't enough to make up for the fact you are not getting anything against them on the PP
That and they have the depth to keep Draisaitl and Mcdavid apart 5 on 5, so they aren't waiting for 2-3 shifts to get them back out or having to play them 28 mins every game. Only some games.
But teams only get better when they add more and more offence. Devils can put the puck in the net, they need to stop it now
