The 1st rounder is fair for both parties. Also zero need for us to add. They are getting a NHL player, filling a need, and paying half the salary for 2 years and can use the cap to fill another hole.

The owner has to pay him anyway. If he moves and the Flames pay $3M they replace him with Wolf $900K and Holtz (?) $900K and a 10th pick. The Flames come out saving $1.2M on salaries and replacing the goalie with parts that can play in the age group Conroy is building.
If the owner says no, then they are stuck with 35 year old goalie blocking Wolf again, no young guy like Holtz and no 10th pick and $6M in salaries. A smart business man like Edwards is taking the $1.2M savings and knowing that the younger lineup is going to finish at least in the same place as the 35 year old goalie.
