The Flames are trying to trade a better goalie, a significantly lower percentage of the cap than what Kuemper was (if they retain 50%). Surely if Kuemper gets what would be the equivalent of a former 1st round pick and a 1st round pick plus a conditional pick that would be the absolute floor for a Markstrom trade.

A conditional 2025 1st and Holtz (recent 7OA pick) sounds like a better return than Kuemper got.
We have no idea if retention is even on the table. I’m starting to doubt that it is.
