Lol are we gonna do this all over again, Markstrom is not worth the 10th alone, so retaining 50% can hopefully achieve that (probably still won't get the deal done unless Fitz folds).
The prospect of trading Markstrom had us rightfully excited going up to the trade deadline. Because inside we all know trading an aging goalie for the level of prospect that was rumored would've been huge. Well you still have an option to land a player of that caliber at 10th overall and yet we're arguing over retention % or the supplementary pick.
As is fate, the Flames will find a way to end up keeping Markstrom to earn enough wins to either put us above the 10th overall pick next year, or for him to follow his flip flop pattern and absolutely tank any trade value that he had. Instead of taking that absolutely unnecessary risk the priority should be getting rid of him even if 50% retention + 28th is supposedly an overpayment for the 10th. That won't seem like an overpayment when we lose our 1st next year or when Markstrom is worth a bag of bricks again if he falters at the age of 35.
