The problem with that is where are they going to get a younger goalie that is a legit #1 workhorse? From things I have heard the Bruins want to trade Ullmark to a Western Conference team. The Predators have been saying they intend on keeping Saros. Now that might be a leak to drive the price up if they are ready to embrace some years of pain working a young goalie in who probably isn't ready to be a #1. The price will be a lot steeper on Saros than Markstrom, the rumoured ask at the deadline was Mercer + 2024 1st and two more picks/prospects. Personally I don't think Trotz is bluffing, I think they sign Saros this off season. John Gibson's name is out there every year but there are major hurdles there. For one he has not been that good for a few years now. Second, his contract is brutal. Third, he gets injured a lot, and fourth being the biggest issue is he really likes Anaheim and makes it difficult for them to move him. So I don't see a lot of options for the Devils here.
