The Carolina Hurricanes have won more playoff series in the last 6 years than the Flames have won in the past 35 years. Not sure if they are Stanley Cup contenders but they certainly at least have some playoff success.
I would not mind if the Flames tried the Hurricanes approach or at a minimum took a page out of the George Costanza book and just did the opposite of what they have always done.
