I'd rather we trade our own guys like Mangiapane and Markstrom and get even more picks - load up on prospects at this draft and the next two. Once we have a better idea of where we are at with our home-grown elite talent (hopefully we have some of those pieces in the next 1-3 years with good drafting), then we can start adding those top notch complimentary pieces in trades and FA like Necas.
Also, if Markstrom is gone then we are very likely heading into a season where we will be worse than we were this season. Adding scoring to a rebuilding roster is just.. classic Flames. We should go into this season and let the kids take another step with more responsibility, use our extra cap space to sign 1-2 year deals and flip them at the deadline for picks, and use retention spots to take on contracts and get more picks and just load the F up on prospects with high-ceiling talent please for the love of god.
With that being said, I look forward to seeing the Flames taking a swing this summer to try to accelerate the rebuild as is Canadian Hockey Team tradition.
