It does, though. At 40 he had soooo many pissed-away opportunities to buy a house at fair prices and basically free interest rates.
Profile a 30-year-old who is struggling to get a foothold. I don't have much sympathy for failure-to-launch 40-somethings who made poor life decisions and now don't have a house. You don't just deserve a house for existing for 40 years. You actually have to make decisions and sacrifice certain things (like not covering yourself in tattoos and getting ear grommets or wearing a condom when nailing chicks) to prioritize saving for a down payment and then consistently paying your mortgage, which requires continuous employment.
The article is necessary, but they missed the mark by a decade. I know so many people who comfortably own homes/condos/townhouses at his age. This isn't an issue crippling 40-year-olds who played their cards well. This is something that is hurting people younger and they are who the article should have focused on.
