If they lose this year, I believe it is the beginning of the end.
Mcdavid contract isn't as big a deal as Leon's. He's the one that makes $8.5 and likely gets $14 million. He's been putting up 120 a year, has more career points in the playoffs than McDavid does. 0 chance he takes a back seat this contract. He's also 29 next year, plays a ton of minutes and when his new contract kicks in he will be 30 and signed to 37/38
The last year of his team friendly deal, the Oilers have:
Neal - $1.916
Brown Bonus - $3.5
Campbell - $3.8 in the AHL or $1.1 for 1 year if they buy him out
This is $6 mil to $10 mil of wasted cap space that takes them right to when Leon needs a new contract. This team has no depth, no prospects and no cap to address the depth.
Campbell contract is not a great buyout situation either. Year 2 of the buyout is a $2.6 mil cap hit. $2.3 in year 3. Only year 1 is a big cap savings. Trading him when you have nothing to throw in is not an option either.
Go Stars Go! Finish these losers off so we can all start rip them and how this is the beginning of the end in Edmonton. Can't wait until it falls apart.
