A friend of mine did a Vegas trip with their 8 year old, they basically had to pay for an extra seat on the plane and an extra hotel room for the grumpy, miserable Grandma to babysit so they could go out and actually do anything fun.
Sounded miserable to me, take the kid to Disneyland.
