Yeah, it's common etiquette to let coaches go on to other opportunities if they wish to do so, especially if it is a promotion. I doubt Yzerman would have held him back if that was the case. It's probably more likely that Yzerman asked him to stay and Tanguay agreed.

I don't think he was to blame for the crap PP for most of the season. I believe it was largely due to the personnel and just new coach growing pains. He will have a lot more to work with in Toronto.
