Well blow me down, the receptionist apparently doesn't make mistakes, and seemed offended I would impugn her reputation or character. I tried walking her through the timeframe logic, nope. Asked what the appointment was for, she didn't know or say, I pointed out I've never been so much as late to an appointment at that clinic--or any of the half dozen others I've been to at Associate--since 2001, she wasn't going to hear it.
So I guess I'm stuck paying $50, or bringing it up with the doctor himself in July.

Honestly that sucks I would just be careful with how you speak with them (not saying you're being rude) but with the doctor shortage you just don't want them to not allow you to see that doctor anymore.
My MIL had that happen to her where she kept complaining about the doctor not caring about her problems blah blah blah and then the doctor sent her an email saying she is no longer a patient at that clinic.
I don't even have a family doctor and doesn't seem like I'll have one soon.
