I understand what you mean and, to some extent, agree.

But most of the time, the comparisons are valid. Agreed, nobody compares ET to Private Ryan just cause Spielberg directed it. And you're right, nobody "should" compare The Village with the Sixth Sense, because they are two different films. But so what if they do? As a director, M. Night Shyamalan should be motivated to improve on his first movie. In that case, a comparison would be of use to him.
But Meet the Fockers is a direct follow-up to Meet the Parents, with the same characters, and is essentially an extension of the first movie. I think that would warrant a comparison.

Personally, I though Meet the Fockers was better than Meet the Parents. Ben Stiller wasn't as big a loser in this one. It's too bad, because aside from movies like Zoolander, he'll never be able to escape the role he's stuck in.
