Has anyone heard of these DVB cards, they have the capability of turning your computer into a full fledged sattelite reciever with PVR functions. They come in two flavors; software driven, and the more pricey but easier to use hardware driven version. The software driven version of these cards are amazingly inexpensive, about a fraction of what a standalone reciever would cost, and they can decode HDTV signals too!!
This technology has been out for sometime now, but I've just discovered it now and want to share with everyone.

Can you dumb this down for me? How exactly does it work?[/b][/quote]
Basically a DvB card has the ability to Decode almost any sattelite feed you can think of. It can decode both Dishnet, and Bell expressVu's signal both of which are encoded by Nagra Vision. DirecTv and Starchoice would be the notable exceptions because they encrypt there signals differently. The main advantages of DvB cards and recievers over your regular provider issued recievers are that they operate totally Camless (no access card needed), This means your not susceptible to those dreaded ECM's. Another cool feature is you can recieve up to 4 signals at once, if anyone asks why you have so many dishes just tell them your working for SETI.
The only negative point I can think of is it's a bit more complicated to get setup.
