Average people usually have no idea who is playing for a team now, let alone who was playing for them in a previous era. They will go to games when a team is winning because cheering for the winner feels good. When they do learn players names, it happens because the winning brought them to watch the game exposing them to the announcer. And even then the names they learn tend to be based on names that sound neat, not player skill.

I think it should be a consideration only if you need a tie-breaker on deciding whom to pick. If you have 2 or 3 prospects neck and neck and one of those is Iginla, you go with him IMO.
Obviously I have no idea how the Flames have the prospects ranked and whether they would need a tie breaker like that. Bob Mackenzie did say that outside of the top 1 or 2 in the draft, it's pretty even and no real consensus, so maybe the tie breaker scenario will play a roll.
