For sure a fall like that is potentially disastrous on a skateboard. To reiterate, I have no intention of going top speed on it in the same way I have never gone top speed (and never will) in my car. It's not even tempting. I've crashed on a skateboard a ton in my life, but I'm 47 now and don't feel like laying in a hospital bed because of a skateboard wipeout.
My ebike will do 55 downhill (45ish on flats) and it isn't terrifying at all. I'm talking on roads, though, not on skinny trials or anything.
