It sucks but at least the only really bad contract the Jays have is Springer's

Thank goodness Atkins never locked in Bo/Vlad to monster 13 year type contracts

With some shrewd moves and a little luck, it's possible to turn this around quickly

I stress the word possible there

There's always a chance things go sideways, but this was definitely foreseen in the case of the Jays. I'm not a genius by any stretch but they brought in a bunch of guys who had mediocre track records for hitting production. Or guys who are on the downside of their career. So some of this will be pleasant surprises like Turner (though not a total surprise as he has a decent track record), but the vast majority of their guys had limited upside and sketchy records. So while I personally didn't see them being this bad game after game, it was foreseeable, and almost predictable. Again, this is a two pronged leadership problem that immediately needs to be expunged. Atkins and Schneider. One built the roster based on a stupid defence first, at the expense of offence, philosophy. The other hasn't maximized the value of his guys or lit any type of fire under them. Of course the hitting coach goes too. I also think they have to trade Vlad at least. Shapiro only gets a pass for perhaps two years because his focus was the business of the renovations. Anyway, enough excuses. The team was poorly assembled and that's on two faced Atkins.
