Marner can posture like he wants to sign long term, he’s not going to come out and blast the organization. Johnny, Matthew and Elias all said the same thing.
However;
1. Toronto has basically confirmed changed to the top 4 is necessary
2. I’ve heard rumblings that Marner would welcome a change
When you look at the big 4, you can pretty much guarantee that Matthew’s and Nylander aren’t going anywhere. So that leaves Marner and Tavares as the odd men out, but in terms of the best return for Toronto, Marner makes far more sense than a downward trajectory Tavares.
Goaltending and Defence are the two big holes for Toronto with absolutely nothing in the pipeline. The only way to fix this is free agency (no cap room) or Trades which leaves Marner firmly as the odd man out no matter how you spin it. I’m almost certain he’s moved along with a coaching change.
