Good. I wonder what the warning would be. Would it be as I said… “if you dive, the refs will stop calling anything for your team.” Or would it just be… “don’t do it.” There has to be real consequences for diving - not just playing 4-on-4 - that’s not a punishment. And a $5,000 fine is lot enough of a punishment either.
I would really love for extreme suspensions and fines to players for embellishment. I think embellishment has a detrimental effect on the game and it has been gaining momentum for years. We have seen what it did to soccer and what it is doing to Basketball. Those sports have done very little to stop it and I find them virtually unwatchable because of it. I worry the same is going to happen to hockey.
My suggestions: Make it so diving negates the original penalty or makes it so your team gets an extra penalty - turns it into a 4-on-3 penalty kill for the team with the diving infraction. Every embellishment penalty gets reviewed by the league after the game… if it is confirmed as a blatant embellishment then the player is suspended a minimum of 3 games for a first offence. 2nd offence is 5 games. 3rd offence is 10 games. I know lots of people will say this is too extreme, but diving/embellishment is the thing I hate most in today’s game. It’s embarrassing for the sport and I want to see it gone. This is how you get rid of it.
