Personally I think the Oilers have been extremely poorly managed for a very very very long time, but so have the Flames. A lot of time I think each fan base looks at each other pissing and moaning when in reality we are both losers. Misery loves company so to speak.
Both franchises had the most success when both were fantastic teams, success and competing against it makes everybody better.
If Edmonton is able to do some damage, it may provoke ownership and management to quit messing around.

Why do you think the Oilers are competitive? And what can the Flames management do to repeat that? Be lucky and win a lottery to land a generational player that keeps your team relevant.
Plus ownership is one thing, but Conroy and Iginla bleed red and are in management, they absolutely are trying their best to create a team that can compete and be better than the Oilers one day.
Whether the Oilers have any playoff success shouldn't matter. By the time the Flames become good enough to compete in the playoffs, the Oilers will probably be out of this McDavid window, so your hope of both teams being competitive at once is not realistic unfortunately.
