An off topic for another thread but the NHL and hockey is kinda unique amongst major pro sports. You can be an absolute stud and a top player in the best league in the world, make your money and live somewhere where the general public doesn't have a clue who you are.
That doesn't happen in the NFL, NBA and more. People talk about pressure about playing in Winnipeg or Calgary, but you can't "hide' in soccer.
To my previous post, we can blame management amongst Canadian teams, coaches, executives and owners. There is enough evidence to show that it's not just a few poor managers, there is a serious issue. Outside of Vancouver in 2011 arguably, what Canadian team has been favored in a cup final in over 30 years? Literally dozens of coaches, managers, executives and more in that time frame.
