Yeah, worst case, it's done anyways. Just cut it off and reshape and allow the branches to grow around it. It grows fast.

Lilacs are good for that. I had to cut down my lilacs by 2/3 this year for window installation so that they could put up a scaffold. I'm hoping I'll be back to close to par by mid summer ish (from 3 feet to around 7-8 feet ish tall) and I plan to flood the #### out of it ASAP to encourage rapid growth.
But in general it'd still be wonky looking if it's a thick branch completely snapped off on one side. That might take two seasons to recover from. The thinner branches can only do so much to cover a section like that.
