Just because you never heard it doesn't make it not true. I heard him saying it on the Spittin chiclets podcast.
He wanted to sign long term when the Flames offered him a bridge contract. The Flames told him for them to keep the team together it was the best move for the team.
He was willing to sign for 8 years. He said it himself.
