One of my many jobs (in order to exist day to day) is working at Co-op. The executive their is basically a cabal of evil cartoon villains (luckily balanced by a pretty clueless union), but the app is one of the better things that have run down the pipe.
Yes, they only wanted it because of the same revenue streams that every place, from Tim's to Cobb's enjoy, but the app creator actually did a pretty good job, and I've seen some pretty savvy customers come away with deals below cost, because of the bonus cash. Those are probably loopholes that will disappear, but right now it's pretty effective if there is something that you like and use on offer.
I have way less issue with grocery chain apps, as I do with apps to tiny chains. At some point, just have better pricing.
As a further aside, Co-op pricing is nonsense, and comes from up on high, but that also means that they don't understand quality, and if you are knowledgeable you can find deals, because the people doing pricing do not understand the value if it's high. Sometimes they price low end and high end really closely.
