Though I didn’t realize my parents were low income until much later in life so perhaps I have a bit skewed view.

I had to share a room with my brother growing up. Mean while our sister had a room of her own. We didn't agree and let our parents know. Years later my brother ended up building his own room in the basement. Our sister complained about that saying he got more privacy than she had.
