Dallas is very good at drafting.... in the first two rounds. Not so much after that. Calgary, on the other hand, seems to be good for one NHLer picked in the third or later every year, but their work in the first two rounds is middling (they get players, but not impact ones).
IMO, if the Flames are to be successful in their plan, they need to be a lot less risk averse in the early rounds. No more playing it safe with Yan Kuznetsovs and Topi Ronnis in the second round.
