Just an example, but what we see here in Toffoli is a player who's value diminished the closer he got to free agency. I think the Flames will still do fine, and if they pull the trigger in the summer its because a price was met. At least Markstrom wont be a free agent after next year either so 2025 trade deadline is still likely a good time to trade him as you suggest. I don't think the summer will be as bad a time to trade him as you suggest, however
