We already know that the Flames don't want to rebuild. I wouldn't be surprised at all if we signed Chandler Stephenson to a massive deal in the summer, or Sam Reinhart. To continue being a murky middle type team.
It is an ownership problem. People use the word retool because some teams have successfully done it, and they will usually use a team like Boston as an example. We don't have a Marchand, Pastrnak, Bergeron, Chara, McAvoy type player etc.
We don't have a core to build around. This needs to be a complete long term rebuild. Which Conroy began by making all these trades. But let's not forget that as recently as a few months back, we offered Lindholm a massive extension. Ownership I fear is not going to accept the timeline it takes to build a contender.
Either way though, obviously I don't expect the players to tank. It is just funny because it so Flames that we all got hopes up for a top 6 pick, and suddenly we started winning 3 of the next 4 games. It is what it is.
