I think you are confusing whether it exists for a valid reason due to HRR being “unknown” vs players having to “like it”

I'm not confusing anything. And they aren't sacrificing anything.
Total player salaries = 50% of HRR. If total contracts = more than 50% of HRR, there has to be a clawback. Period. Is what it is, nothing to hate, it's just math being applied to the CBA they agreed to.
