Dogs bred for centuries to be violent , strong , fighters or guardians tend to be dangerous ? News at 11
I believe most people can absolutely handle these types of dogs . I know people with these types of dogs and they are lovely dogs . It really is (usually) the person not the breed . Usually ….. and that’s the problem
I also recognize I would still not leave my child at their place or unattended or leave my medium dog there unsupervised . Because the potential for damage is too high if something goes wrong . A smaller dog bites them . A child steps on their tail . Dogs get too hyper and don’t know their strength. Tons can go wrong and it’s not worth the risk reward to me . It doesn’t matter if these dogs are better behaved then little dogs on average - it matters what happens with disaster strikes . The same reason we don’t allow tigers and bears as pets despite the fact that some are very well trained and lovely animals
Unfortunently like everything in society we need to cater to the dumbest , most incompetent owners . This is why breed bans are the only practical solution . Comprehensive registration / adoption programs won’t affect the majority of the attacks - because these people would not register or go through the program anyways . You can almost always pick the demographic of the person when an article says “dog attack “
I do believe much more punative and jail punishments should be handed out as well - but I don’t think that actually would make a difference . The people that would deter are not the people who are having their dogs attacking
