When I went through the peace arch crossing into Vancouver, the Canada Customs agent didnt even ask for my name. Simply asked how long I was in the States, and how much I had to declare. Guy didnt even move his eyes from his computer screen.
Problem with busier crossings is that there has to be pressure to get vehicles through the border as fast as possible. Efficiency and safety are often mutually exclusive.
