The electoral college system is stupid and meritless, and a relic of the slavery era. Lecturing people to operate better within the stupid, meritless system isn't a valid way of justifying the stupid, meritless system.

Canada has FPTP because it doesn't have a president. The US has a house that is basically a FPTP system, a senate that gives every state equal power regardless of population. So to say that the presidency should also be based on state power, is basically triple-dipping on the idea of regional representation.

When there's one president for the entire country, every vote should count equally, regardless of which part of the country it was cast in.

I wouldn't mind Canada moving to an American style government. But of course without that godawful stupid meritless electoral college. And no to the idea of each province getting equal power in the senate. PEI getting the same say as Ontario would be very silly. Lifetime appointments to the SC is also silly.
