I myself have lived in both. Well I think we can all agree that Van is wetter and gets less sunshine than Calgary. If you like snow and cold, with short, not very hot summers, with cool nights, Calgary is the place for you.
If you like rain, not as frigid temps in winter and decent summers and warm nights, Vancouver is for you.
I believe it is mythical to some point that all it does is rain in Van in winter, just as mythical as those whom dont think Van gets snow. However, dry cold or not, calgary is cold in winters, even with the odd chinook. I personally hate Calgary weather, both winter(too cold) and summer(not warm enough and short) and would much rather have rain and clouds over sunshine, cold and snow anyday of the week.
Guess it is all a matter of preference.
