But to say they always choke, is not close to being accurate.
Since the 2016-17 season they lost in the first round as the wild card 2 team and twice as the Atlantic 3 seed to the Atlantic 2 seed. None of those are chokes. They won a round in 2021 and 2023 and then lost to teams that went to the finals. 2022 was a 2 seed to a three seed. Again, none are chokes.
2005-06 -> 2011-12 - Missed playoffs
2012-13 - 5 seed that lost to the 4 seed in 7 games
2013-14 -> 2015-16 - Missed playoffs
2016-17 - 8 seed lost to 1 seed
2017-18 - Atlantic 3 seed lost to Atlantic 2 seed
2018-19 - Atlantic 3 seed lost to Atlantic 2 seed
2019-20 - Missed playoffs in COVID season
2020-21 - Won playoff round as Eastern 2 seed over Eastern 3
2021-22 - Atlantic 2 seed lost to Atlantic 3 seed
2022-23 - Beat Tampa and lost to Florida

The Leafs lost in the first round against Montreal in 2021? Winning against Tampa last year was the first time they advanced to the second round since 2004.
