Where Nufy's going wrong is the base assumption that the fuel gauge is super-accurate: in reality they're calibrated to indicate a lower amount than what's actually remaining, so that dumb-dumb drivers have some reserve capacity before actually running out of fuel.

50 L is still fairly small. The only cars I can think of that I've ever driven with smaller tanks were Toyota Echos and Tercels (with about 45 L capacity), and a Ford Escape PHEV (~42 L). Even so, because of their economical consumption those vehicles had plenty of driving range.
