Guys, this whole thing is a money issue. And it’s not easy to just say “ban fighting!” It’s probably more or less established that hits to the head result in CTE. I’m sure lawyers can argue either way to avoid a lawsuit and that’s fine but there are other considerations. As I pointed out previously there’s a marketing aspect that is associated with fighting and that being attractive to some degree of fans. Even if it happens less these days. Anyway, if fighting is way down, which is a fact, is the CTE issue going forward a mitigated issue as the numbers are down? What about hitting? It’s a contact sport after all? Do you ban that too? What about boxing or the NFL, or UFC, which seem much worse? Why should they be able to continue? It’s just not a quick, “ban it, it doesn’t lead to goals”. That’s totally oversimplifying it. I don’t think anyone thinks Simon and dozens of other deaths related are because of it. It’s almost undeniable. But with mitigating factors such as less fights, requirements to keep helmets on, etc I can understand the nuance of it for the other way too.
