Gretzky's goal scoring output was on the decline while Bossy was still scoring at a 60 goal per season clip when his back gave up with no signs of decline in his game. It's impossible to say how Bossy's career could have played out but if he was able to play into his mid-30's I think he could have got very close as his shot was as elite as there was in that day.
