I'd agree with you if I thought there was a way that NJ wouldn't be trying to go into next season with a different goalie.
If they were willing to roll it back and hope for a Vanecek bounce back then I think it would make sense, but that's never going to happen.
So if you know you want to bring in a goalie with a higher cap hit potentially then clearing that $3.7M without having to pay to get rid of it is a big win.
