Sources in the know did not guarantee anything. They expected the trade to go through, and said that it did not because the two sides disagreed over the value of retention.
As a wise man once said, you are entitled to your own opinions, but you are not entitled to your own facts.
(By the way, it is not the start of the 2024-25 season yet, so Sec214 has not yet been proved wrong. I think it would be hilarious if Markstrom, Ullmark, and Saros were all traded this summer – and the Devils got
none of them.)
