34 year old goaltenders don't go up in value when their play drops.
At the time of the alleged NJD offer, Markstrom was saving nearly a goal per game more than expectation. Far better than he has played at any point of his career.
Since then he now has 2 years instead of 3, with each year becoming less valuable than the previous as he gets older (that is how aging works). This alone significantly lowers his value.
And since then he has let in more goals than expectation. I believe he was 34 goals saved above expectation before this in 33 starts, and in the 8 starts since is -1 goals saved above expectation. Again, a massive drop off in play. If he doesn't get it back together by the end of the season you're looking less and less like Schneider to NJD and more and more like Fleury to Chicago.
