This rebuild is due to poor asset management, and expecting results from random pieces with no plan on how to construct a team.
Huberdeau put up 40 assists spending a large chunk of the season with Lucic. Kadri was by far worse than Huberdeau last year..Weegar was awful the first half of last year too. There's lots of blame to go around for players. Markstrom was probably the biggest issue last year.

They tried a lot of players with Huberdeau. I agree that the Flames didn't give him the right players. At his price tag, though, he should be less dependent on having the right players. A true franchise player's success isn't as situationally dependent as Huberdeau seems to be.
Huberdeau also suffered from having to play in a coaching style that didn't match his game.
All that being said, he went from 115 to 55 points. A lot of that is on him.
