The most important thing in the next 2 seasons is to find players to build around.
There is a grand total of 1 player to build around, and that's Wolf. He is the only truly 'blue chip superstar potential' prospect in the system (and even then it isn't a guarantee, though nothing is). It isn't enough to draft well and get good NHL players through the draft. You come out of it at the same place you went in - a rather deep team without any real superstars/franchise players.
I love Zary and Pospisil, but neither of them are franchise types. Hopefully Conroy can hit on a few. You don't need the top 3 or 4 picks in a draft to find them, but it certainly helps find them (or be in a position to find MORE of them in a draft, since most of them are obviously clumped together at the top of each draft).
