Maybe. It depends on what flames management think of their future options with Andersson. He’ll be 30 when he needs a new deal and he’s a very valuable asset right now. Conroy has just experienced how difficult it is to get a team to give up a top prospect when trading a rental defenceman. If they keep Andersson and he does not want to re-sign in 2 years, Conroy will be trying at that point to get a player like one that gets picked at 10th-12th overall in this draft… and it’s very unlikely a team will give that up for a rental. However, he has a chance to get that player now for Andersson with 2 years left on his deal.
All depends on if the flames think Andersson will re-sign in 2 years and if they see him as an impact player in his 30s.
