I would actually recommend Asus over Acer.

My friend's Acer laptop. In a span of about 3 months, he had to send his laptop in 3 separate times. But he puts a lot of programs in there so it's probably his fault.

My friend's asus has been ok ever since he bought it.

I personally use NEC, but u can't buy their laptops here in Canada.
