I'm no scout or anything, but I watched a few Devils games recently because of all the Markstrom speculation, and each time I came away pretty unimpressed with Mercer. Didn't stand out at all.
I don't think he's a center either. From what I read from Devils fans, he has been pretty bad in that position when he has played there.
