Reasons to trade Markstrom now:
-New Jersey has a limited competitive window with several players on cap efficient ELC/RFA contracts. This season is a part of this window
-Markstrom's play is likely to regress by the end of the season. He is 88% in 3 games without Tanev
-Markstrom tends to be inconsistent on a season-by-season basis. Teams know this. He had negative value just 6 months ago
-Markstrom can get injured
-Markstrom is annoyed by the people at top. He may refuse to waive his NMC in the future. Or he may dictate where he goes
-Ullmark, Saros, Thompson, Gibson, Binnington, Talbot, Stolarz, Brossoi, Nedelkovic, Kahkoken, and Fluery could all be available in the summer. Tons of competition at that point
-Wolf needs more NHL development time
-Markstrom being gone can help this year's draft pick
-If Markstrom is traded, ownership may finally accept the reality that the Flames are not competitive
-Markstrom is one of the oldest goalies in the league and has no long term future for the team
-The Flames could get a 2024 1st round pick at the middle of the first round
-Fitzgerald's job may be on the line. He may be desperate now
-NJ's new coach has an extensive history with Markstrom

Reasons to keep Markstrom now:
-The Flames have an 18.8% chance of making the playoffs. There is a chance the Flames could make it with Markstrom in net
-Other teams like Colorado, LA, Carolina, and Philly make show more interest in Markstrom during the summer
-It's possible that Markstrom now refuses to waive his NMC
