You pay for the safest bet. Who is a safer bet in net than Markstrom right now? I'll wait. Most of the handful of contenders for that honour this season he has played and beaten head to head, including Swayman and Vasilevskiy tonight.
He's led the league in saves above expected since before the midway mark of the season.
If some Devils fan think he's just another option and the Devils can find a comparable upgrade laying around anywhere, then he's an idiot and fooling himself.
Devils are welcome to go and fetch that guy for the pennies this guy thinks they're worth. They'll be back.

Ullmark quite frankly. 2 years is a better term (I do NOT want to be stuck with 36 year old Markstrom in a year where Ullmark, Shesterkin, Saros, Georgiev, Adin Hill, Logan Thompson are all UFAs)
He's younger, I think he's better, and frankly from the conversations I've had with bruins fans he'll be much cheaper.
Jarry I'd also prefer, Montembault (much smaller cap hit), Spencer Knight, Saros, Logan Thompson
This year Markstrom has been great. But frankly Calgary missed the boat. A top of the market goalie offer was out there, they passed.
Going into next season age 35 year old markstrom is anything but a safe bet
