They're traded for less because they're the biggest wildcard. How do you not understand that?
It doesn't mean they're the least valuable. it just means them performing is not guaranteed because goalies are voodoo by nature, so the inherent risk diminishes the picks they go for.
A team NEEDS a goalie performing to go anywhere.
It might not have to be at a Vezina level, but the middle of the pack for starters at the bare minimum in order to compete for the cup.
Without that, everything above the goalie collapses. They're absolutely integral, and New Jersey is learning that lesson this year.
