Buyers do not sell young, cost controlled guys getting 17+ minutes a night. It is counterintuitive to take away from your roster

Yes they do, it has happened multiple times in the past to upgrade a position of need. Also, McLeod is gone and has been for a while and Mercer is still used as a winger in NJ. They are not using him as a centre going forward. He also is actually averaging 3rd line ice time this year as that is where he is being used.
